Series: Light and Memory in the Landscape of Soconusco In this painting I approach the everyday life of the tropical landscape, where cultivated plants coexist with wild vegetation, forming a living architecture of leaves, shadows, and humidity. In this work, the protagonist is the banana plant, one of the most characteristic plants of the agricultural and tropical landscape of the Soconusco region in Chiapas. Its broad, luminous leaves open among dense vegetation, while its deep purple blossom hangs quietly, announcing the birth of the fruit. Observing the plant closely, I became interested in its life cycle: some leaves appear marked or burned by the intense tropical sun, while new shoots and small offshoots grow around the main stem. Within the banana plant coexist both the force of growth and the natural process of decay, as fallen leaves return to the soil and become nourishment for the new plants that will emerge. In this cycle I find a quiet metaphor of resilience and continuity.
