Series: Light and Memory in the Landscape of Soconusco. In this work I explore a different dimension of the tropical landscape: the chromatic richness of the plants that grow in gardens and around rural homes. The main plant appears to be a croton, known for the intensity and variety of colors in its leaves. In the humid and luminous climate of Soconusco, these plants develop unexpected combinations of greens, yellows, reds, and oranges, creating a kind of living mosaic within the landscape. Observing them closely, I became interested in how each leaf seems to contain its own drawing—spots, dots, and veins that resemble small organic maps. Rather than representing a single plant, the painting becomes an exploration of the visual rhythm that emerges when many leaves intertwine and the tropical light activates their colors. In this piece the landscape becomes almost abstract. The leaves fill the entire visual field, transforming the scene into an immersive experience of color.
