Series: Light and Memory in the Landscape of Soconusco 2026 In this work I portray a mangal, the name we use in Soconusco for the orchards where mango trees grow. Among their branches appear Ataulfo mangoes, a variety that originated in this region of Chiapas and is now appreciated and enjoyed around the world for its sweetness and smooth texture. This landscape also emerges from my childhood memories. During harvest season I would accompany my family to the hill where my grandmother had her mango orchard. I remember helping to bring down the fruit with a long pole and a net, while the air filled with the sweet fragrance of ripe mangoes. I paint the vegetation through multiple brushstrokes that allow light to filter between leaves, branches, and fruit. The mangoes appear as yellow flashes within the foliage, marking the rhythm of the orchard.
